So what does any of this have to do with spirituality?
As we have said frequently, we are really spiritual beings who are having a human experience. We live in both realms simultaneously. Our ultimate spiritual truth transcends but includes this material existence. Our identification with giving and receiving is frequently connected only with our material world and does not look at the movement of stuff (material and otherwise) from a spiritual viewpoint.
When we shift our viewpoint to a higher vantage point, to the realm of Spirit, we realize the following:
- That everything is connected, that we are all One.
- That there is a “flow” of energy and life and intelligence and much more among this interconnected One.
- That this flow moves between the non-physical world and the physical world.
- That contrary to our frequent beliefs, there is an unlimited abundance available for us to tap into.
- That when we are freely both giving and receiving (from our material possessions as well as our non-material “possessions”) we are contributing to this flow.
- When we refuse to give or to receive, we are blocking this natural flow.
- That when we give to others, we are ultimately giving to the One which includes us.
- That when we receive from others, we are ultimately receiving from the One which again also includes us.
Ultimately it’s not more spiritual to give than it is to receive. Giving from the bounty of our holdings as well as receiving from the bounty of Life are both part of the natural flow of Life.
Stepping up to the vantage point of the Spirit within us allows to perceive both this natural interplay between the material and the non-material as well as the availability of an unlimited supply of Goodness that we can always access.
Considering giving and receiving solely from a material world perspective causes us to believe in a world of limited resources where we are in competition with distinct and different “others” for them. When we shift our perspective to the spiritual world, we release those old beliefs and realize that we live in an abundant universe where it is essential for us to contribute to the flow of abundance so that every expression of the One can live a full and rewarding life.
